Dear Nields friends,
Things to be grateful for, in this month of gratitude:
- The Red Sox won the world series
- We rocked the Iron Horse with our Crackerjack Band
- Winter squash
- Sunsets
- Lila heard Gotta Get Over Greta for the first time and said, "Again?" after the first five songs.
- Extra week of Daylight Savings Time
- Nov 12-19 is World Kindness week, so get 10 one dollar bills and scatter them around.
- Spectacular foliage despite the doubters
- It's almost time for Patty's Holiday party!
Katryna and I are having a blast touring behind Sister Holler. On Oct. 13 we got to play the Iron Horse, our favorite and hometown club, and best of all, we got to play with our band. It was so much fun, it made me want to buy a biodiesel van, sell all my worldly possessions and go back to living in a different Motel 6 every night so that we could still not afford to pay a band, go into debt, lose our minds and have a fabulous time playing in curious places all over the country.
So we're going to settle for a facsimile of that. I know this is NOVEMBER news, but heads up for another band show in DEC: on Dec. 8, we're going to be at the Living Room in NYC with our glorious gang of guys. Consider yourselves warned.
We just got to visit our pals in Connecticut Radioland, Ed McKeon and Susan Forbes Hansen to promote our Nov. 10 show at the Sounding Board in West Hartford. We always have magically delicious shows there, and highly recommend making a night of it by having dinner ahead of time at Harry's Pizza.
Speaking of great radio, on Friday Nov. 16 we are at WAMC studios in Albany. I can't make a pizza rec. but I can tell you that the sound there is un paralleled and that we love the gig. Saturday Nov. 17 we will play the Steeple Coffeehouse in Southborough, MA for the first time.
Then we break for turkey and lentil-nut loaf, plus yams with tiny marshmallows, pecan pie, green beans with almonds and canned cranberry sauce. Also, to count our blessings. Here are the lyrics to our new Thanksgiving song which we will sing at our shows this month:
The Harvest Table
The days grow short
And the nights grow long
And the apple's heavy on the bough
All the plans we laid
Which we fear betrayed
They are little trouble to us now.
Can we all unite? Yes we can unite.
Gather round the harvest table
Join your story to the great fable
And thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you
We have worked the soil
We have seen it through
With our will and muscle and our bones
Though the rain took a share and the sun took a share
There is plenty left to feed our own
Can we all unite? Yes we can unite.
Gather round the harvest table
Join your story to the great fable
And thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you

Finally on Friday Nov. 30, we will do a show at our beloved Passim! And will rejoice with our people for the second Red Sox World Championship of the century! We shall sing praises to Youk! And Dustin Pedroia! And cute little Jacoby Ellsbury! YAHOO!!!
