A Word from Nerissa
Dear Nields fans,
I have always disliked it tremendously when artists use their various public forums as bully pulpits. Especially in an
election year. What do you care what we artists think? Why should we get to express our views to you, just because we
get listened to a fraction more frequently than your average Josephine?
It would be in very poor taste, for example, to discuss that Bush's new tax plan once again distorts and bloats our
already bloated economy, shoots the deficit into the stratosphere, robs from the poor to give to the rich and makes no sense
to ANY economist, liberal or conservative. Or to mention the Swift Boat Jerks Who Lie. Or to point out Dick Cheney's
horrific comment about the country being in danger should Kerry win. Or to address the quagmire in the Middle East, and
the growing numbers of terrorist cells multiplying like crazy since 9/11, or to recognize that all the good will that poured
out from every corner of the world three years ago has evaporated and that we are universally feared and resented. When Katryna
and I were in Canada, no one we talked to could believe that Bush, whom they see as a rat's ass, had a chance in hell to be
reelected. They laughed. "What are you worried about?" they said, when we threatened to emigrate should GWB remain in power.
"Your citizens would NEVER reelect him!"
Oh, sorry. What was I saying? Oh, yes. Come see our shows! We are tearing it up big time these last days before
Baby November arrives. Katryna and I are working on new songs, old songs, some musical comedy and some very tasteful burlesque.
While on maternity leave, here are our plans:
- Katryna: have a baby
- Nerissa: finish a complete draft of the Big Idea
- Katryna: play with Amelia
- Nerissa: have another Writing it up in the Garden retreat, plus ongoing Tuesday and Thursday workshops
- Katryna, Nerissa and Dave C: make a full length children's CD
- Katryna: Paint pictures of Nerissa's songs and children's songs for a virtual art show for our web site.
- Nerissa: plan her wedding to Tom Duffy
- Katryna: get bugged by Nerissa about wedding plans especially the part about the dress (Nerissa wants a white mini
skirt and matching white gogo boots like Yoko Ono wore for hers and John's wedding)
- Nerissa and Katryna: VOTE ON NOVEMBER 2!!!!!
Hey! I'm getting married! WAHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Love is a many splendored thing! And it's all you need! That, and a
democrat in the White House.
Love, Nerissa
A Word From Katryna
Hello All!
I know that summer is not over, but somehow bringing Amelia to school has me completely convinced that we are into
fall. That and the fact that the town pond is now officially too cold to swim in. Also September usually means the end of
festival season. Nerissa and I celebrated our fall tour with wonderful shows at the Boston Children's Museum- coolest place
EVER- the Windham in Bellows Falls VT and then a delightful show for the Buffalo Friends of Folk Music near Buffalo, NY.
What a fun way to begin. We have also been learning some of the dozen or so new songs that Nerissa has been stockpiling.
We promise to break some out over the next few weeks.
This weekend brings us to the shores of the Mississippi. We are so so happy to be returning to St.Louis, MO where we will
be playing Washington University with Christine Kane on Friday night, the 17th of September.
Then we will drive up to Chicago to play at Schuba's. We stayed away from Chicago for no good reason for a few years,
but ever since our show at the Old Town School of Folk Music, we have been hooked on making this a regular stop on our tours.
You fans in Chicago are extra fun. We'll see you on Saturday at Schuba's!
We will be celebrating our father's birthday on Friday September 24th in Vienna, VA. We are returning to Jammin' Java
where we had a wonderful show last time with Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines. This time we will be joned by a cool young
group called We're About Nine. Northern Virginia is our childhood home so these shows are always extra fun for us.
The next day, Saturday, Sept. 25, we will head up to the Phine city of Philly where we will take over the Tin Angel.
It's been a while since we got to taste the fine cuisine provided at the Tin Angel. Yum. We cannot wait. We love
Philadelphia and we are counting on you to convince the rest of yor state to swing the right (left) direction.
We will wind up the month's touring with a visit to the great Cornell University. What could be more lovely than the end
of September in Ithaca, NY? We'll be there on Thursday Sept.30. See all you western New Yorkers there!
October brings just a few shows before we break for the Baby. Amelia has chosen the name Seralda, if it's a girl. She's
open to other ideas too: Snow White, Beauty, Princess Jasmine.... And if it's a boy, she's quite open minded. Anyway,
before we get to name the babe we will come to some familliar haunts. (See the tour schedule for the complete list.)
Don't forget to registerto VOTE www.yourvotematters.org
We look forward to seeing you at the shows!
