Nerissa and Katryna Speak
Hello friends, and Happy Birthday to ...me!
I, Nerissa, am about to enter my thirty-eighth year, which sounds oh so much older than the "36" I
answered to yesterday. (For those of you blearily rubbing your eyes and reaching for morning coffee
and don't feel like playing this game, I'm thirty-seven today.) And what have I learned this past
year? That music is the most amazing language the Gods ever invented; that I am the luckiest person
on earth to get to make my living in the company of both music lovers and my sister, Katryna, who is an
angel with cleverly disguised wings; that somehow, despite our best efforts to get massively famous and
terribly influential, we got, instead, wonderful, full and almost balanced lives. We are planting
gardens. We are watching children grow. We are singing and crying and dancing and writing and plump
with the fruits of our labors.
Sorry, too much Walt Whitman in my diet recently. We have great shows this weekend, I'm sure,
although I have no idea what they are. Patty will tell you. Hey! Just a little more than six months
till Christmas! I think I'll spend my birthday at the Christmas Tree Shop!
We have new songs, new clothes and big surprises. Come on down, and say hi!
Love, Nerissa
When Nerissa says Plump, she's referring to me. When she says New Clothes, she's referring to me.
(Although it IS HER birthday... maybe I should head down to town to pick her up a new outfit.) That's
because I, Katryna, am once again expecting a new little being. Amelia is most excited. She just
got twin cousins thanks to her Aunt Abigail so she is a little miffed that there is only ONE baby growing
in my belly, but she is excited none the less. She apparently is ALSO growing a baby in her tummy. Hers
will be a girl named Angelina- after the ballerina mouse. When I asked her what she will call it if it
is a boy, she paused and then said, "Angelina's Daddy."
We are so happy to have summer here. Nerissa and I both have newly painted houses. Hers is yellow
with two shades of green and one shade of red trim. Mine is green with black trim and red doors. So
we love to be home, but we are very excited to come out to see all of you!
This weekend brings us to the neighborhood of the great Falcon Ridge where we will play the Spencertown
Academy. It will be an intimate show. It's been a while since we've done a regular show what with our
break and our Dylan tribute weekend. So come on out. We'll play all your favorites.
On Sunday we are heading to the Connecticut shore where we are playing in Wilton, Connecticut. Free and
Early show so bring the kids (at 6:00pm). I am.
The next week we are heading the great city of New York where we will be playing with our friends
Common Rotation at the Fez. June in the City? What could be better. I love the Fez. I love Common
Rotation. I love NYC. Plus we're celebrating Patty's 40th birthday. At least Patty is. So come bring
her a present. Eat the delicious food. Have a grand time. See you there.
On June 18 we are returning to Godfrey Daniels. We haven't been to Bethlehem since our record came
out so it'll be a party. :-)
That weekend also brings us to the fabulous Hudson Clearwater Revival! I am DEFINITELY bringing Amelia
to this one. Dan Zanes will be there. Dar Williams too! I cannot wait. Plus we are doing a children's
show on Sunday.
So happy summer everyone. Hope you're having a cookout with friends soon. Sing into the wee hours.
Laugh. Rant. Eat. Then sing some more. I am sure the neighbors won't care.
Love, Katryna
