Happy New Year!
Dear friends and family and fans,
Well, 2006 was a bang-up year for us Nields. As usual, we made millions of dollars, most of which we gave to notable charities, including all the trendy ones, like curing disease in Africa, saving the rainforest and our own personal favorite, Patty's Women's Basketball Fund, a special lobby that is working to ensure that women's basketball is viewable 24/7 on network television. Our three exceptional children all made the honor roll at their day care centers and kindergartens and although they were each approached by agents wanting them to pose for Gap commercials, we turned them down so as not to let their beauty swell their dear little heads. Similarly, we turned down several offers for us to appear in Gap commercials in order to insure that our art would stay pure and unsullied by the rampant commercialization against which we strive so heartily.
Katryna is renovating her kitchen (by hand of course) using only recycled and reclaimed items and Nerissa is almost completely enlightened. I say almost, because there was that incident where she couldn't get the body scan mp3 she'd recorded for purchasers of her day planner to compress to a zip-able file so she ended up throwing her Powerbook into her special Seasonal Affective Disorder light box, breaking both of them and a half-full coffee mug in the process. But other than that, she has pretty much identified all the root causes of her suffering and has written a three part epic poem on the topic, which she will presently set to a long droning piece reminiscent of Krishna Das.
Seriously, we are beyond excited for 2007. For one thing, I, Nerissa, am turning 40. Also, we are scheduled to perform at none other than the WINNIPEG FOLK FESTIVAL!!!! This is one of our all time favorite gigs, and I can barely wait to show Lila and Tom the glory that is Winnipeg.
Closer to home, we celebrate the first show of the new year on Jan 13 at the Joyful Noise Coffeehouse with our friends, the Kennedys. This is certain to be a fantastic jam--please come! Later this month, we travel to New Jersey, home of John Gorka, to play at the Minstrel Coffeehouse, which we always enjoy. Also, we're performing at the Sounding Board, that marvelous den of traditional music, in our almost ex-hometown of West Hartford, CT. Early February we're off to St. Louis. Lila's first airplane ride. Life is sweet.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
Love, Nerissa and Katryna
